CV's??? (weird noises...)

Post by farfrumwork »

So I am having some strange noises from the front passenger area.

I *think* it may be one of the CV's, but previous experiences with bad CV's were different - clicking in turns.

I hear no clicking in turns, but more of a "clunk" in accel/decel and even more over sharp bumps (low speed, like a bumpy dirt lot).

I have not had the car up in the air yet (busy fixin' other vehicles in the fleet), but just poking my head under there I saw no issues with anything (boots look good, all bolts present and accounted for - that's a good start! )

I can even feel the clunk through the firewall sometimes as a slight "thunk".

So my 2 possible causes are
1) CV?
2) Engine mount(s)? Causing the motor to rock too far and hit *something* (the issue was slight this winter, then got much worse after installing the VF12, which is pushing a bit more power through the drivetrain :-) )

Any other idea's out there?

I'll get the beast up this weekend and pry at the mounts, and try to pull/twist the axle and listen (but I don't think I can apply enough force to replicate well over 200ftlbs of torque - haha)

Thanks,
Chad
