Odd CEL issue

Post by Tleg93 »

So I bought this car off of a board member. It had a CEL code flashing the day I bought it. I have since disconnected the black and blue test mode connectors that were connected under the steering column. The odd thing is that I'm still getting a flashing code but this time it's 7 flashes and that's it, plus the seatbelt light is flashing. Does anyone have any information on this? I'll disconnect the - terminal tomorrow morning and see if that clears any of them. Before I uplugged the connectors (someone had been driving the car around with both connected) I was getting a code 35, and 51. Purge solenoid and inhibitor switch respectively. Now all I have is a CEL giving 7 flashes...

I've been finding all sorts of problems with my new ride. Also, the connector for the fuel pump was arcing and the pump was intermittently shutting off. I noticed that there were some bare wires, taped those and it seems to have helped.

This might not be the case but there is a black connector under the steering column that when unplugged causes the seatbelt light to flash and disables the warning beep when the key is left in the ignition or a seatbelt is unbuckled. Try to set off the warning beep and if it doesn't make a noise then that black connector is not a test mode.

Yeah, I'll check that. I did already disconnect the ones for diagnostic mode. Still can't believe he was driving around like that.

Well, I guess it wasn't that odd after all. The car was running in Dcheck mode. The green connector was all tucked away.

codes

Post by bepa »

hey yes that is me. sorry that I don't know all about these cars yet. been away from them for over 10 years. when I first got the car it was in bad shape. bad caliber, bad trany water pump and 7 codes if not more.

I did said the trany was possibly bad but it was driving. now I have e-mail the member with the trany and low and behold he still has it and I think for a good price.

I also did say about the gas pump connect.

as far as the codes go I was trying to make sure I did not have any new ones. from what I have read here flashing 7's is all working correctly. and then the code 5-1 comes back. that why I had it to show the codes. could not understand how one time no codes and then another time 3-5 or 5-1. do not know where the purge valve is.
asked at transmission shop and was tolded it's the alignment of the selector for shifter on transmission.

you could use my member name if you like. I was telling you everything that was wrong with the car to the best of my knowledge. when you said about the fuse I did not know it was out. I also lower the price before you even said anything. if you would have seen the way I got it you would see it came a ways before you got it.

I can understand what your saying but I did not try and hurt you with it.

I was asked if I was going to try and buy your old cars for parts. have no tow truck for the moment. have no idea what your asking and after reading post may be best not to ask. also how does it work in Pa as far as selling a car?

P.S. sorry for not knowing when the young lady called. did leave message about how my number was there. just did not remember # right away.

I see you have ove 2k post. willing to bet your good with subaru's. I am just lreaning about them again. some things are new and some are not.

right around now I wish I had sold it to blackbart for a little less.

sorry

Well, I wasn't trying to come down all hard on you or anything. I'm happy with the way things went down as far as the sale. I guess I just wasn't expecting blown speakers, arcing connectors, a bad tranny, and a completely soiled interior. But, I needed a car so I bit the bullet. I also have no problem with you as a seller. You've got access to a lot of stuff. I'm guessing you're pissed about this comment.
Yeah, I'll check that. I did already disconnect the ones for diagnostic mode. Still can't believe he was driving around like that.
All I meant was that I couldn't believe you were driving the car around in diagnostic mode. I assumed that you were a Subaru guy since you had two or three SS's. Maybe I could have worded it differently. It was a bit scathing, but not so bad.

I realize that for 1200 bucks you're going to have to do some work to the car. I'll also admit that I'm anal about interior issues and my cars in general but I've bought comparable cars without having to pull the tranny right away.

Also, this whole thing has been a major headache for me, so I'm a bit on edge. You have no idea what I've been through in the last few moths with life and cars. I had to take a pass on an awesome car that I wanted more than anything, Phil's old car. A completely built up monster, a car I'd have to do nothing to outside of maintenance (it's manual taboot) for a reasonable price but because fate intervened yet again in the form of a broken transmission, I had to take the other car and now I'm wondering if I should have just waited... so I feel your pain man.

But I take issue with your comment about selling the car for less. I just don't get that statement at all. I didn't think that my post was all that harsh. You can't really expect me to not post about problems I'm having with the car, it wasn't personal. To be honest, in light of your comment, I wish you would have sold the car TO ME FOR A BIT LESS, or even rather Blackbart.

If I misunderstood your post I apologize.

Sounds like the new SS is on the fast track to recovery from its ills, Scott!

:D

Keep an optimistic outlook on it, I know it's hard sometimes (trust me, my SS has given me more than a fair share of problems)...but there is always light at the end of the tunnel...

Oh, I am stoked about it. I was only mildly annoyed at some of the small issues I discovered. Bepa was straight about everything he knew of. I only got angry when I saw his comment about wishing he'd sold it to someone else. I haven't given him a hard time at all, I thought we were on fairly good terms.

Red Green rocked the party.

Tleg93, I know how buying a car off of a board member can be a touchy situation, esp. when there's some weird stuff going on with the car. People can get defensive with stuff like that.

That's the hard thing about conversations on the internet. Reading what someone typed can be taken totally the wrong way.

look no way did I wish to see any legacy SS parted out. I too was upset at what I had read.

I was keep wishing to put you bad or rate you badly. I had a couple of reasons at the time to keep ahead of what was happening.

this car also came a ways while I too had it.

we are different in the ways we gather the data from our cars. but we both like our Subaru's. I have learned much from here and USMB. thanks to all.

I was not stating anything bad. I did give a little and deliver. then I read not hear from you. what to think at time not sure.

I usually drive cars till their is nothing to sell. now I am working on turning subarus around for another person in need.

again did not intend to hurt anyone. like the same back.

be well, safe quick driving, Bepa

I did let it get out of hand myself. I was looking for more to tell the ture. just like you said the trany ( I had ask if you had one available) the interior OMG you are right I am bad with them. No really bad! said the connect to fuel pump could be a problem. happens often with the legacy's

Scott you got back to me when I was looking to get tickets to go babysit for my grandaughter. her father is a marine and he takes care of her by himself. he nneded a babysitter during a training mission for him. that's it and in order to go I was willing to sale fast!

okay that's why I was willing to let it go for the first 1200 dollars I could get.

Bye

the best part of you getting the car was you are NOT parting it out.
