Post by terranaj98 »

Just wondering if the pause or lag between shifting is a sign of anything? like it lags a little then pulls in the next gear... it sounds normal.. but im a nervous nelly since i got the car.. last week.

Thanks for your help guys:)

My 4EAT does that sometimes, usually on downshifts. Sometimes at WOT, it can't decide if it wants to shift so the RPMs jump around and you can hear the engine rev up then down, up then down, etc. I took it to a tranny shop to replace the filter and fluid. The guy there said everything looked in decent shape and didn't find any problems. Just out of curiosity, have you checked the tranny fluid level?

My 4eat blows. It takes a good 5 seconds to downshift to 3rd when cold. Fluid is fresh, and it stays fresh thanks to the leaks. This is my second one and I'm about to swap in a 3rd, which thankfully is free and has low miles. Reverse stopped working in the first one at about 130k, and this one came out of a junkyard with something like 80k.

The fact that I'm constantly manually down shifting probably doesn't help though.

Anyway it's almost neutral drop time.

hmm, same issue here, except i overfilled the tranny a bit, think thats a reason? and i used that lucas tranny fix stuff(claims it extends fluid life........) which probably overfilled it even more!

well something that might be of interest..
when i fiddle with the idle screw
it seems that the transmission AFTER either
finds the gear when the idle is higher
or.. searches and finds it later when the idle is lower..
any thoughts?
