Ok here is the deal. I have a dead 1991 awd LX that is rusted beyond what I am willing to drive(and that says a lot as I will drive anything). Brake lines are rusted out in several spots, and it will not start. I can get a 1996 Outback wagon for a really good price. It needs some work as it had a tree limb fall and take out the drivers side rear window and bent the roof rack. (not really big deals) I believe it runs, but have not driven it. I am not even sure if the transmission is good or not, but I don't like autos anyway. How hard would It be to swap out the transmission to the manual from the 91? I think the 96 is ODBD II and will it work correctly after the swap? The 91 ran well, and shifted very well before it died. I figure I will use the rear dif off of the 91 to make sure that it is the correct ratio. I will have both cars in the garage while doing the swap. I am not interested in power on this car, just reliable transportation.
I have done clutches before and have taken out both front wheel drive transmissions and rear wheel drive transmissions. I have air tools and a fair amount of space. I will likely keep the motor from the 91 as a spare. Does this seem feasable? Waht will I have to look out for?

You'll basically have to deal with most of the same issues I mention in my swap. The wiring will be slightly different, and is with any swap....that can make or break a swap in how well it works.
