Good luck!

We locked the shop and all 5 of us went to different local dealers trying to track down the Snap-On guy so we could buy the socket so we could reassemble the tranny. When we found him, he didn't have the tool. We bought a similar tool from a tech at a GM dealership and then had to grind the shit out of it so it would work.

It was a disaster.

I can look in the FSM to see what Subaru tool is needed, but I can't do it today. I might be able to do it tomorrow morning when I get some time, if you can wait.

Hmm, for the 05 the FSM just says to loosen the ring gear.

So you just need a standard, thin-walled 6-point socket, not a special Subaru Socket. I remember that's what we had to do with our socket, was grind the crap out of it. But it was an odd size that none of us had, or could find (or wanted to donate to the grinder). At least I think it was an odd size... Otherwise, I don't remember why we drove all over dodge to find a snap-on guy.

Have you tried grinding down an old socket?

The torque on that bolt is only 50.9 lb-ft.

Is there anyway that you could send me a picture of said socket ground to perfection, or lack there of.......

It would really help alot to see what you guys did.

Thankx.

It was thrown away the same day and a correct thin-wall socket was purchased from OUR Snap-on man.

If you have the diff out, it should be easy to eyeball what you need to do to get the nut off.
