Valve Noise Question

Post by mako8172 »

New to the board so first let me say Hi to everyone!

Did some searching and couldn't seem to find anyposts like this so here goes...

91 Legacy L 2.2 Non Turbo 168K

It has recently started to sound like a valve/valves on the driver side are fluttering when going up hill. No real power loss but it has gotten louder over the past week. I live here in Needles, CA and our Temps the last several weeks have been appx 115*. Morning temps are appx 85* and I don't notice it then. Last oil change was about 5 months/2200 miles ago(10w30). Would oil weight make a big difference or is it possibly something more serious? Should I try changing it and using 20w50 or straght 40 weight? This is a daily driver so if its major I need to get it fixed asap. Any help is appreciated! TIA for your responses.

Jay

Sorry, should have added it doesn't seem to make the noise driving on level ground or at 3-4k RPM when parked.

Does it only do it going up hills, and under lots of load?
