cam slop?

Post by dirtyhandssubaru555 »

so i notice some slope in the turbo side cam when i was installing the cam gear. i could pull and push on the came, front to back, is this normal? or is it something i should look in to?
my girlfriend finaly found out that i spent more money and time on my car then her. she was kind pist to say the least.

Yeah that seems like a decent amount....however I don't know what "normal" is.

i don't think it is very normal considering the other side didn't move enough for me for me to notice, since this is my first EJ i'm not about to say its not normal cause i don't know. i think i'm gong to pull the cam tower apart here soon and replace some lifters that have been giving me some problems. any body else have an idea?

my 91 ej22t heads, the passenger side cam had alot of side to side play or 'slop' as you call it when i did the timing belt install on my ej18/22t hybrid.

i think in my case, it was lack of oil in the head cause the motor sat inside on its side for 2 years and i guess all the oil just ran down into the other side or something, but the car runs fine.

it just made it alittle tricky to get the timing belt installed, took a few tries.
