FS: 4.111 Tranny

Post by BAC5.2 »

Hey guys,

I've got something cookin for a tranny, so I'm selling mine.

It's a 5-speed from my 98 Forester S. It's in good shape, doesn't grind or make funny noises. It's had synthetic fluid for as long as I've owned it (45k) and it shifts nice and smooth, despite it's age. It IS a 4.111 final drive, with the gear ratios that everyone seems to love so much.

It's got 170,000 Naturally Aspirated miles on it, and for the last 45k the input shaft has only seen over 3500RPM a handful of times. I wouldn't be surprised if the tranny has another 60,000 in it.

This is perfect for anyone looking to do a 5-speed swap, or for someone who's transmission just died, or anyone who wants a 4.111 final drive! I have been driving the thing for the last 45k, and haven't had a single problem.

I'll start the bidding at 375 plus shipping. Of course, you'll get a discounted shipping rate as I will ship it through our corporate account. It's usually never more than $100 anywhere in the USA for ground shipping.

Thanks!

Phil

If your worried about the rear diff, a rear ring-and-pinion is cheap from the dealer!

Give me a couple weeks Phil and if it's still for sale, I'll try to take it off your hands at your asking price. What power does your Forester put down, aka, what was this designed to handle?

Bump, there you go!

Tranny and rear diff available from Frank and I.

Lee, The forester makes like 160bhp? More than a Legacy ever did. Plus, the short Final Drive helps things stay together.

Basically, imagine doing a wot launch in 5th gear from a standstill - theres too much gear for the car to move, so youre going to break something (most likely in the tranny). The "lower" the gear ratio, the lower the stress on the drivetrain....

Yep, lower final drive = less stress on gears.

Phil, I got my raise this week. Give me until the end of next week and I'll let you know yay or nay. Could you go ahead and get a shipping quote to 83835. I could have it delivered to my place of work if need be due to shipping requirements.

My auto - I think it's the tranny - is making a lot of funny noises and I already have a spare 4.11 rear diff that I have installed my LSD into so I'm think the 5mt swap may have to happen sooner than later.
