well i was about ot change my TPS, i picked up one at a pull-apart for $5.00, pretty sure it work but for $5.00 it doesnt matter

i wanted to take one last look over everything to make sure that something else couldnt be causing my idle and sometimes rough running and strange throttle response

i took off this hose, dont know what it is, it goes from the block (also connects to intake via another hose) to the manifold through some valve, i noticed the valve looked very dirty and the inside of the hose apeard partly clogged, but i want to make sure its not a gasket of some sort of gasket

also i got a IAC incase this doesnt help, im saving it for later just cause it was a pain to take off and im sure it is to put back on

just run some hot water or something through the hose and try cleaning it out. but no you dont need a gasket for the hose or anything. but you will need one for the idle air control valve

PCV valve

That piece that is full of crud and is threaded into the intake manifold, is the PCV valve. Replace that filthy thing! Go ahead and clean the hoses it connects with out. It may not be the total cause of your problems, but the pcv valve is so gooped up it probably can't be functioning properly.

thanks for the help and quick response
i cleaned that hose out and the end of the valve off and it did help idle right at start up, the rpms do not shoot up so much anymore, but the idle afterwards remained the same
how much does a valve cost? if its not much id rather get a new one than one off a junkyard

the TPS sensor seems like it had a little better throttle response, but it didnt solve the idle issue, so im pretty sure its the IAC now
im out of time for the day so i will tackle it tomorrow since it will take much longer

at over 280k miles, i dont think any of this stuff has even been touched before, the parts car had less than 170k, so hopefully this stuff is still good

I tend to prefer OEM parts unless I know something else is better. I got the OEM part here:

For less than the local dealer wanted. Shipping on that site is $9.95 minimum, so if I were you I'd grab a tune up kit too (fuel filter (a good idea if you have poor throttle response), air filter, and spark plugs).

thanks for the lnk, i might order it form there
the plugs and fuel filter arent even 2 weeks old, air filter is old but clean, wires are semi new, maybe a year or two old


i was going to replace the IAC today, but i forgot about the gasket, i need to go get one ...and its 102* heat index today, jesus christ i hate summer!

the junkyard TPS is on, gave better throttle response, and the new PCV is on, and they havent fixed it
so thats a PCV, TPS, Fuel Filter, Plugs (NKG), and a cleaned MAF

im pretty sure now that its a IAC problem, does the pic of it i posted look good? its the junkyard one, i noticed the gate on it was at half way open, is it supposed to be like that, or should it be fully open or closed?

Could easily be a vacuum leak causing your idle problems. There are many vac hoses on the turbo cars, and I think Vikash has a diagram of them all. Search for it.

You can get a can of carb cleaner, start the car, start spraying small bursts of carb cleaner around the vac hoses in the engine bay. If you spray some near a vac leak, the carb cleaner gets sucked in at the point of the leak and causes the idle RPM to increase slightly.
That's what you're listening for. When you hear it, look around for a vac leak. Fix it and keep looking for the next one. There are many small hoses, hard pipes and other fittings that can crack or come loose. That is a common thing contributing to rough idle.

i changed the IAC from a leggy with 70k miles on it, it made a differance but not exactly for the better
in park after first starting up, even if you rev it the rpms wont go below 1200, it goes back to what it did before after you change gears which is 400-500, and sometimes after running it hard 150-200rpm

i ment to look at the vacum lines more but it apears there is only 2 on the manifold, i forgot to check them, ill do it later
