Post by Bheinen74 »

i saw a buick grand national turbo tonight and talked to the guy for a little while. He was running ??? a garett g60?????? does that sound right, at 25psi and meth injection. he had the meth tank sitting on the fenderwell. said it was doing 11's or so in the qtr. . had some racing slicks on the back. was sick ass, and in good shape. had a lot of people peeking under the hood in the parking lot. i told him no racey until i get bigger turbo.
his turbo was HUGE.........i mean really really huge.

Big engine, big turbo. Those cars are awesome. Mid 12s was little more than a chip away. Back in the day there was a dick who had one of those and even my friend's big block Chevelle couldn't take him. Finally got smoked by a 10-sec. 78 Malibu sleeper. There's a GN in my first two books.

GNXs are nice, but a lot more money for little more car and IMO would be too valuable to modify whereas a standard GN would easily get past the GNX performance with bolt ons. You could always do the GNX bodywork on the GN also. I've seen 2 Bugatti Royales, but only 1 GNX.

Of course, nothing is as rare as our cars! All the mods everyone's doing is sacriledge to these future auction record-setters!

I know there's a GT55R, but G60? Maybe some oddball for GN's?

11's in GN is not a challenge. If the turbo was that big, I'd hope he'd be deep into the 10's, or maybe even 9's.

All of the GN's around here have drag radials on.

There's one with a HUGE front mount with the license plate 9SECGN. He drives it regularly on nice days.

I raced a stock and busted looking GN in my Legacy once. It was just from a roll, and I don't know if something was wrong with it, but I was edging forward a bit.

I'd like to own a pristine GNX one day, and a modded to hell GN the next.

You can also swap in the 4.3 from the Cyclone/Typhoon, but IIRC, it's not as tough.

GM needs to make a solid package like the GN/Monte Carlo/Cutlass/Grand Prix again. Of course without the dead Olds or a pointless Pontiac version.

With a large enough garage I'd have a GN and a MC SS with an LS2 and 6-speed.

Still to date... the fastest car I have ever been in was a GN with a T76 turbo. My God.

Yup one ride in a buddy's T76'ed, Big FMIC, DFi'd GN @22psi in the mid 90's ('95-96) got me hooked on boost!
After that I Turbo'd my Integra GSR, had a Galant VR4, Had my parents buy a WRX (they are hooked on boost now too) Turbo'd my Impreza OBS, & most recently got a LSS.

I'm not surprised @ the GN running Meth as when you look at the old DIY Meth kit sites they were generally GN guys building these kits back in the day with nitrous solenoids, jets & the trusty shur-flo pumps.

The fastest street car I've been in was another friends Modded Typhoon in '98-99! I looked @ the turbo & laughed as it looked like a 20G Mitsu turbo - ? trims or mods done to it. It also had a FMIC (stock AWIC was junked), big Exhaust, Standalone ECU (Accel DFI), High stall Torque converter & worked tranny, fully worked motor - bored stroked, ported, cammed....
On the ride I brace myself as he brake-torques the Typhoon, when he guns it my knees hit my chest & it takes me a few seconds to regain enough composure to look @ the boost gauge & read just 17-18psi!
Another friend who hated this guy later told me the p/s front wheel was airborn!!!
I'm still looking for a reasonably priced Typhoon......
