95 Impreza 4eat tranny in 92 Legacy - Will this work?

Post by americanyouth »

OK, I've got two friends with seperate subarus. One has a 92 with a slowly dying tranny, the other has a spare leftover 95 transmission. Is this a match made in heaven?

From what I seem to recall, the harnesses (physically on the tranny) are slightly different from 92 to 95, but I assume those can be swapped over. I know the final drive is different but I've got the rear diff too.. will he need to swap the rear crossmember to accomodate the 95 diff or will that fit in the 92 one?

Thanks guys, I have embarrassingly little experience with bgs and/or auto trannies.

Auto or MT?

The 95 rear diff should swap in without swapping rear crossmembers.

Hmm you should be able to swap the harness.... The only thing I have to back that up is I hooked up the inhibitor switch from a 93 SS to an 02 Forester yesterday at work for some diagnosis. worked fine.
