I just parted out a '90 Legacy L sedan, 5mt/AWD/ABS. There was a cable operated valve mounted on the frame rail under the brake booster that the brake lines plumbed thru prior to going to the ABS unit. It appears to be a manual shut off vavle for part of the brakes. The cable was hanging loose in the engine bay, but the plumbing all looked factory correct as far as the bends and moounting.
I should have taken pic's befor I took everything out, but will try to post a pic of the valve in relative position to the booster tonight.
Anyone have a clue what it is (or even what I'm trying to describe???)?
My '90 4eat/AWD/ABS Wagon doesn't have this valve, BTW....

Sounds like the hillholder.
Hillholder: An apparatus (hehe) that keeps the brakes applied whilst the clutch pedal is depressed in order to keep the car from rolling back when starting on an incline.

Another newbie question... If the "hill holder" is connected to the clutch pedal what keeps it from applying the brakes everytime you depress the clutch to shift??
Am I missing the big picture here?
