I think birds try to cut close to moving cars for excitement, possibly competition.

He was interfering with cooling airflow to your radiator.

i wanna see this but your pic isn't working. I had a bird hit my radiator once its beak was wedged in between the fins of the radiator and it was just hanging there.

That reminds me of the time when, on one of the drives, one of the guys with an 04 WRX collected a bird in his grille.
