...and you can't go wrong with the '84-'88 HiLux trucks either. I own a 3" lowered '87 HiLux (taking my sweet ass time rebuilding a junk yard 22R motor)

Got this thing for the GF. She wanted a Ford, Phsssshhhhh, shes a girl and cant help it I suppose, but that where we super car stud boyfriends step in, right?

These pics are a little old, although the first pic is sittin on top of my 40 acre lawn now.

Fortunatelly theres a bunch of ATV trails right next to my proporty, unfortunatelly theres no paint left on the Cruiser anymore.

SubaruJunkie: Your other ride is sweet. Nothin like rollin up to a lifted F250 thats all shiny, and thinkin "what goods a truck like that if ya never get it dirty?"

F250s suck. We had a 2004 for work and it sucked off road and on road. I think an old fwd Subaru with decent tires would give it a run for its money off road. Corrugated dirt roads made the thing shake like the body was tied to the chassis with four rubber bolts. Oh and there was the random resonant frequency that would build up in the front suspension on the highway once in a while and make the front wheels literally shake and jump up and down off the pavement at like 50-70 mph (actually saw it while driving alongside and I thought I was going to have to pull my boss from a wreck). It was scary when it happened while driving, but I didn't realize just how bad it was until I witnessed it from the outside. The Ford dealership looked at it twice and declared it normal!

You've apparently never had the pleasure of rollin' down the highway, hitting a switch just to drop a truck straight to the ground as the frame contacts the road & creates a shower of sparks... This in turn causes people to just about lose their minds when they catch sight of it.
If you've never dropped a truck to the ground at a red light just to look over at the next car where people are staring with mouths open, then you've never had the pleasure of being behind the wheel of a slammed truck. The experience is priceless! Tailgaters will stop dead in their tracks once you've laid out a truck in front of them...
I respect lifted vehicles and their purpose (and at times, lack their of), but please don't tell me that a lowered Toyota is a waste. Remember, to each their own.

I just made an offer to this old dood on a 78' two door caprice with the wrap around rear glass, and a 350. 55,000 original miles, for that very purpose.

Cept Im a bit more of a fan of hydro lifters. More old school, and the sound is half the fun. But I get cha on the lowered thing. Got any pics of it?

That has to be the most rediculous thing I have ever read.

I live in California. I see as many dropped and slammed trucks as I do lifted. I do not stop in my tracks when someone lowers their truck in front of me. I do not "ooooh" and "aweeee" at the sight of sparks flying from ones vehicle.

But you are right... to each their own.

I do love pulling up to lifted F350's (they are everywhere). Looking at their 20" chrome bling bling, rolling down my window and asking... "Where is your mud?"

Of course, what am i thinking. Why would someone spend $40,000 on a truck, and then get it muddy?

Why are you rebuilding a 22R? Just throw it in! Who cares if it has 500k miles, 200k of them with one quart of oil? It'll still run fine

If I were going to have a truck, it would most likely be a 22R Toyota. I've personally witnessed their durability.

i have always wanted one of those but in that light blue color they offered. alomst talked my dad into buying a used one a while back but it was at a dealership and they wanted way too much for it.

I think one of the biggest factors was the fact it was a diesel engine vs. the standard 22R gas motor.

I thought aside from the timing chain, the 22r was a fairlly bulletproof powerplant anyway?

Pretty much. They switched out to the double row timing chain in the later years realizing it was about the only weak point on the motor.

I've never personally come across a diesel motor in any of the US Toyota Hi-Lux trucks, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Though I'm sure they're pretty abundant in Europe.
