Bumper Reconstruction...

As the title states, I needed to reconstruct the front bumper on my '92 Legacy turbo sedan. My buddy decided to chop it up to make the I/C fit instead of just notching the structure bar behind the bumper. So since I can't track an SS bumer down, today I figured I'd just reconstruct it with fiberglass matting & resin. Thanks to my new toy (pneumatic crown stapler) stretching fabric to recreate the shape wasn't too bad. Once I had the shape formed, I mixed up some resin w/ hardener & went to down on it. I'm not worried about the pieces being too big since things can be trimmed up once it's hard. Not that it will take that long, but I'm giving it over night to set up. The I'll flip it over and lay fiberglass cloth mat to give it more structure. Probably around 7-8 layers later on the back side and I'll be ready to trim it up and begin to apply Duraglass to fill in the low spots. Of course sand that all down and apply Bondo for the final finish layer. Again sand down and see what we've got.

Sweet, looks like you know how to glass.

Don't try and redo it back to stock. Make it a little bit cooler looking. I think that big opening in the middle could look good if you glassed around it nicely.

You could have plastic welded it if you had the cut piece. I have a post-facelift turbo bumper, nearly new and unpainted. Shipping might not be great, though.

Thanks. I thought about picking up an L bumper and customizing that, but I'll make due with this one for now. I want to install 4" or 5" amber driving lights where the factory fog lights were.

I appreciate the offer on the bumper, but I'm sure someone more deserving could use vs. me.

Here's some shots of my buddy's rear bumper I had to section 1" out of to make fit his '01 Eclipse:
he thought I was kidding when I said I was going to cut it up...

I soaked corregated card board in resin then applied it to the bumper (adds stiffening)

By time it was final sanded & painted, not one person could tell where the bumper had been cut or that it was ever 2 pieces.
Later that year, his little brother borrowed the car and backed up into a cement base of a light pole. Scratched the paint but did nothing to the section I joined together.
