ok so i pull my car into my driveway after doing a little bit of sporty driving (not going above 4k on the tach) and i open the hood to find smoke of some kind coming from somewhere underneath my intake resonator. from what i can tell there is this pipe thats a dark grey and
is wrapped in this aluminum looking band insulator stuff to a certain apot, then the aluminum stuff stops and the pipe just continues...
AAAnyway.. that i think is what whatever (not antifreeze) is leaking from and ending up on my heat shield that is also underneath the intake resonator. which i think is causing the smoke.
now i basically just need some guidance b/c i know the stealership will be like "oh wow, you just blew _____ to smitherines, now you need a new engine which we can do for you for 100,000k"
blarg.
as a wrap up though the smoke is coming from underneath the intake resonator on the left side.
thanks everybody

That insulated pipe is a power steering line.
Check your fluid resevoir to see if it's low, look for dark red oily fluid around the area of the smoke. Has a distinctive smell, too, not like motor oil or coolant. You might have a cracked line.
If its dripping and burning coolant then it going to smell sweet, like syrup.

no, the only work that gets done on my car is by me

how'd you know about 4seasons? do you think i could just go to the auto-salvaage place and get one, then replace the one that's in there now? are you in the zoo?

seems a set of new p/s lines is around $200 from subarugenuineparts.com. They tend to have the best prices for new oem parts.
I would try to find a replacement line at a junkyard. It would only cost a few bucks and is worth a try. Plus you'll get to change most of the p/s fluid.
Yeah, I'm from Missoula, and went to college down here in LA. I go home for Christmas and that's about it. Next summer I'm going to try to make it up.
ok sweet thanks guys,
and if i got a line from a parts store how reliable is it going to be?
i'll check the salvage yard 1st i think,.
i just keep thinking that your engine is only as good as what makes it up every time something breaks
jamal, that's cool that you're from the zoo.
my buddies and i just did the autocross at big sky hs this weekend, i dont know if you've ever done that but it was a blast.
