Remote start

I did a search but couldn't find anything that was clear to me about installing an RSKE unit.
Is there an illustrated guide here somewhere that I missed on how to wire it in?
I'm hoping to get it in before the temps really drop :nervous:

just follow the directions in the manual. they should have a website that you can go to and find all the right colored wires to tap into.

once i did that it was pretty easy.

what is with adding an actuator?
isn't there one in there already from the central locking setup??

I don't think there is one that powers the driver door which is basically the switch for all the other doors. When you shut the door locked and it unlocks must unlock mechanically with the door lock not with a actuator.

I know on my old GL10 if I used the passenger door to lock, the others would lock too, that implies to me an actuator. I don't recall on the legacy though. (90 had no central lock, 92 didn't work right, 94 I haven't checked yet)

You have to put an actuator in the drivers door, which when activated locks/unlocks the rest of the doors. Passenger and rear doors have actuators, drivers dose not. I dont know why.

It's the way a central locking system works. I have an actuator for one of our doors lying around somewhere at the apartment - along with a keyless entry system that I was going to put in the car.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I just thought I'd pipe in here a little on this topic for the sake of anyone else looking. After reading up quite a bit, here are some things I think I've learned:

• NOT all 94 Legacys came from the factory with the remote on the key... carID says only in Switzerland!
• The '92 FSM says those key remotes rely on a special driver's door handle which has a little glass window on it. My '94 does NOT have this.
• Presumably related is this thread, which discusses a method for programming the actual driver's door handle to unlock the car using a sequence of 'door handle pulls'. Did NOT work for my '94 L.
• Still have no idea where the ECU is for the door unlock controls... the '92 FSM says it's near the bottom of the passenger side a-pillar. Another thread said it's near the driver's kick panel.
[/list]

I purchased a universal Viper remote kit. It has a bunch of other possible features like hooking up the dome light, windows and horn, but I'll count myself lucky to get it to lock/unlock the doors. Also, since the "L" trim was the lowest in 1994, logic follows that ALL 1994 Legacys DO have central locking, but carID says the REMOTE was only an option for trims ABOVE the "L", so that explains the door handle trick not working and my driver's door handle not having the special 'window' for that remote.

For reference, I found some really useful links for wiring diagrams for other attempting this:

Your 94 L should have central locking, my 90 L has central locking. Even the higher models didn't get a factory keyless entry though.

Oh yes I knew that ;-) and yes mine DOES have central locking.

I'm pretty certain that's incorrect. For example, see attached pages from '92 Legacy FSM.

I have one of those keys. The LED lights up green when you hit the button. I thought it was just a built-in flashlight.

I guess I should have clarified I was talking about the North American Legacy models. The overseas JDM, EDM, & AUDM markets may have received the keyless entry, but the North American models did not.

The factory manual pages you provided are from the 92 Liberty manual.

It is just a built in flashlight. The key in the pages above is different than the LED key we got in the states.
