90 legacy 5 speed into a 97 obw auto?

Post by MiataPaul »

Ok while looking at a 96 OBW that had body damage I found a much better 1997 with a bad head gasket. I have a 1991 Legacy AWD 5 speed. I know the motor will be basically a plug and play swap, but what about the auto to 5 speed swap? How hard would it be? I am thinking I may try some Rally Cross with this car, as I have a Miata for my Auto Cross toy and figure I will want 5 speed. I much prefer manual transmission also.

I did look at the Legacey777 post, but I am not sure about the OBD-II computer and what inputs it reads form the transmission. His is in an older ODB-I motor.

The changes should be pretty much the same on the electrical side. You may have to swap the ECU to the MT one....but that's about the only major thing I can see that would be different.
