I used a 2 position momentary switch for my cruise control when I did my Momo wheel...all the factory cruise switch does is close a circuit, so I went to NORVAC and found a very similar switch that I installed in the hub cover.

Sorry for always asking stuff guys but I am not an engineer of any kind. I deal with people mostly.
I have a MoMo wheel in the mail, '02 WRX so it has a cruise paddle.
Anyone feel like explaining why the new paddle can't interface with the old system?

I think I understand the basic idea of what you are saying here.all the factory cruise switch does is close a circuit, so I went to NORVAC and found a very similar switch

You don't need an adaptor for these old Momo wheels - you'll just pull the stock wheel and remove the Legacy clockspring and have to pull out and unplug the connection to the airbag. These have a copper pickup strip on the back of the wheel and wireing to that to the horn button. You can then get a loyale (i think) clock spring (basically whatever model came with sans airbag right around 92-93-94) and take it apart and pull out rod out that contacts the copper strip. There's a placce in the column that contacts and you can stick the rod in there for contact....
Jake15, Steve did this for my wheel install. Do i have that right?
Andrew, the 02 WRX wheel won't really work as is - I mean you won't be able to get the airbag to work the clock springs are very different. I went through the same deal and tried to get it installed and someone would have splice the wire connecting the airbag and noone wants to do that. A) because they might set off the bag B) because the bag might not deploy in an accident and you'd sue them. So I suggest you do it yourself and pull the bulb in your dash for the airbag. Or sell the darn thing to someone and buy a Momo bagless wheel (the are on rs25.com all the time). IMHO.
Have fun boys!

Oh, also, it's tricky to center the wheel exactly where you need it on this. Suggest marking on the column where center is prior to fussing with it.
I noticed a weird thing where I could get it exactly center when parked but here in WA (and everywhere I think) the roads crown in the middle so you actually want to turn in a bit (slightly to the left) because if you go completely neutral it feels like you are constantly trailing off the side of the road. Weird I know but let me know if you experience the same.
Also if you've just had an alignment fooling around with the steering wheel can sort of mess it up - again finding the exact center (without the clockspring to tell you) is annoying.
But this is well worth the fuss. I Love my JDM wheel!

Oh and this is different but similar and helpful to see about pulling the wheel....

Thanks for the link to Scooby mods. That will be totally helpful!
I am under the impression that I have no SRS system at all..... so I am just worried about avoiding accidental deployment, not making it functional.

Ya there we go. Is there a safe way to ensure the bag won't deploy randomly? Is that a concern even?555BCTurbo wrote:92s don't have airbags

Well...if you don't have one...then you probably don't have to worry about it...
I have heard that the proper method is to disconnect the battery and wait about 10 minutes for the capacitor to discharge.

Ya, I am referencing "voltage build-up" when thinking about accidental deployment. This was mentioned in a thread somehwere but I can't find it tonight.....
But again, I know nothing and am not sure if it is a legit concern..........

IMHO if was going to trade steering wheels and didn't have/want the airbag. Or if ithe airbag wasn't going to work in the conversion...I'd get a bagless wheel. They are so much nicer...1) you have a better sense of what your feet are doing if you are learning to heel toe, and 2) they feel "lighter" and less bulk. Just my 2 cents.

Yours didn't come with cruise Nick? We have identical wheels, and mine came with cruise.555BCTurbo wrote:I used a 2 position momentary switch for my cruise control when I did my Momo wheel...all the factory cruise switch does is close a circuit, so I went to NORVAC and found a very similar switch that I installed in the hub cover.
Yeah, I was like "I can see my feet"!!! But no, they are in my periphral vision if that...Been trying to learn heel toe like I said and it has been helpful to have a better sense of what the feet are doing.
Best motoring baby!

^^^^^ +1 dude ^^^^^Do you watch your feet while you're driving?
I use heel-toe a lot, but I can't understand why my steering wheel "bulk" would influence learning it.
I guess i wish that I had procured a bagless wheel. But it is in the mail and it is going on the car. One way or another........

momo wrx wheel hub horn cruise control airbag air bag
Hope searchers find this one.
I installed my 02 wrx momo wheel today and it was really straight forward. Mostly because I have no SRS and therefore needn't worry about salvaging the airbag functionality
I removed the charge ( bomb ) from the momo wheel airbag before installing it since my 92 has no airbag system. This was for peace of mind mostly but the thing is dang heavy too. Four nuts off the back and you are good to go. Yes, I definately did bust out the home-brew bomb gear while doing this. Just cuz I love my eye balls.
As far as cruise and the horn go it was very simple. The terminal on the new wheel can't interface with the BC so you have to splice the old connector onto the new wires. Green wire is for the horn in the old and in the new. Pink and Yellow are the cruise in the old and in the new. Dice, match colors, splice and your Legacy will never know the difference.

I am not sure why the 92 wheel had two green wires for the horn (anyone know?). That threw me off but I only hooked up one of them to the new circuit and it works.
The seemingly redundant splice, I figure, is because the wire is not removeable from that metal plate so if you needed to replace your cruise control paddle box thingy you could do so without hacking stuff up.......
Other than that, with the directions from the ScoobyMods link (found above, courtesy of Adam West) everyone should be able to do this.
However, getting the OEM wheel off was a total PITA. At one point I was using a hockey stick through the window for leverage......
Hope searchers find this one.
