Brake caliper observations

Post by greg donovan »

learned some things about SS front calipers over the weekend.

the 94 calipers have a cap that can be removed from the backside of the upper pin.

if the caliper pins are frozen up you can pop this cap off and use a punch to drive the pin out.

however, the calipers on a 92 SS do not have this cap and there is no easy way to get the pin out.

anyone know if the 93 calipers have the cap? i would assume the 91s dont have the cap either.

the newer calipers have slider bolts on the top and bottom that are much easier to deal with.

i learned this because we re did the brakes on my 94 and my friend that helped me do it went to the shop he works at the next morning and there was a 92 SS that was the same color as mine waiting for him with the same problem as mine.

he thought it would be an easy fix untill he saw no caps on the pins.
