poping/ poor performance?

Post by mgroshong »

ok this has been going on sence i have gotten the car. it went away for awhile when i put in a new knock sensor.

well now that it is colder it has came back worse then ever.

i have the wastgate hooked directly up to the turbo. i'm bypassing the boost solinoid.

now in the summer i was running 5 psi, but now that it is cold i'm running anywhere from 7lbs and can creep up to 10lbs towards the top of the rpm.

and out of nowhere it will fun fine and pull like it did when i test drove it. this only last for maybe 2-5 min.

now i don't have any check engine lights, so i'm leaning towards there not being a bulb in there.....

ok i don't feel like ripping the cluster out just yet, so i'm going to see if my mechanic buddies new scanner can tell me whats going on. ( btw it is pretty badass)

well if you guys have any sugestions on what to look for when diagnosing that would be great?

cliffs:

-new plugs ngk-r's
-new knock sensor
- running wastgate boost, seeing 7-10lbs depnding on load/rpm
- hesitating all the time and most of the time if a stomp on it to wot it will pop then accel. but it feels like it is pulling timing like crazy.
- randomly it will fun great for like 2-5 min then back to shit
cars:
- 1991 legacy SS, stock
- 2003 s2000, turbo project
- 1991 crx dx RHD
- 1990 probe gt, 12 lbs, lowered

Your check engine light should come on with the key on, but engine off... if not, get a bulb. You may have another sensor out.

Check carefully for cracked or loose vacuum lines. I had similar problems intermittently, it usually came down to a vac line being off or misrouted after screwing around with the engine, or a sensor gone bad. If you've got extra lines hanging, make sure they're plugged up; fold the end double, and zip tie.
