A fucking tree limb fell on my 300D

Post by 555BCTurbo »

Yeah...

I was parked at my parent's house last night, with the windstorm we had, a very sizeable tree limb fell on the left rear of my Mercedes...and messed it up...

I am really quite pissed...I totally could have parked in front of the shop instead of the damn tree...

Go figure...

I have a lot of hammering and welding to do this weekend :(

Well, 4-speed automatic... Moreover, it was a non-turbo. 88 hp baby, yeah!

sorry about the car, Ive always admired those old SOLID mercs.
can anyone tell a little about the merc turbodiesel engines. can they be turned up very much/easily like a VW or a cummins? how heavy are they(the engine)? are there any common manual trans' that bolt up?

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I used to have a manual W123, a 240D, which is non-turbo 4 cyl...but the tranny does bolt up to an OM617.952 (the turbo 5 cylinder). As far as turning the motors up, no one has really messed with doing it. They are non-intercooled stock, but I intend to intercool mine, and maybe turn the pump up a bit. The engine weighs like 600lbs...since it is all iron

They are kickass cars...so solid feeling...and safe...and comfy

And the 617 turbo cars generally get in the low 30's for mileage

Yeah, they're really awesome. I met a guy who had swapped a junkyard 240D 4-speed into his 300D turbo like you describe. Never got to take a ride in his car though.

They are awesome cars. I kind of wish I'd kept mine and done more playing around with it. If I knew then what I know now... it'd be so much fun to do things like the tranny swap, an SVO conversion, experimenting with propane or LPG...

And it was a car. It didn't have all this extra stuff all over the place making it complicated. Heck, even the electrical system was pretty much just there to start the engine and run the headlights and stereo.

Sigh.

I think you need another one Vikash...

I was going through Diesel withdrawls...until I found this 300D "parts car" on Craigslist for $200 obo...I went and put a battery in it, and offered $100 and drove home in a 300D turbo :D

Lucky...

I don't have the room, physically or otherwise, for another car right now.
