Ball joint popping...still??

Post by boro »

Ok so I notice last night as I pull into the drive through at Steak N Shake that my right front ball joint is still popping when I brake hard enough. At least, I suspect it's the ball joint. I did replace the axle up there a few months ago so perhaps the caliper is loose? Or even the axle.

Also the sway bar bushing is rotting, but there is no metal on metal contact at this point.

Looks like I will be back under there if I get the chance this weekend.

Thoughts?

If it only happens when you brake hard, I would also think it might be good to take a look at the caliper. Not just the bolts either, make sure it can slide freely.

yes it pops when I brake hard enough and then again when I let off. Some one said they removed their swaybar link when they chaned ball joints and positioned the link by jacking up the control arm. I did the same. They then stated that the link was loose and come to think of it, it looked a bit lobsided when I put it all back together. Could be part of it.

So, ball join fitment and castlenut, sway bar link and brake caliper (mount and slide)

Now if it would only stop sleeting....

I have swaybar bushings if you want them. OEM, rubber, 18mm. They seem to be in decent shape.

thanks but I have no monies till...who knows. I am going down to the shop tonight or tomorrow and I am going to use my stringer impact gun on the bolts. The one I used will barely remove lug nuts at its highest torque...

I was going to send them for free although a few bucks for shipping would be cool.
