I have a 91 legacy EJ-22. Should I put a turbo on it? It has 120k miles. Will it totally rip apart my motor. I want more power!
Thanks
Spence

hmmm, I think you'd be better off buying a legacy turbo. The engine is different to compensate for the added stresses associated with a turbo.

Mark,

Swap

Could I swap for a EJ-22t or will that be bad for other parts of the car.

Do you have a manual or auto tranny? . Others may state whether it'll bolt up but I do know for a fact that both manual and autos in the legacy turbo are different from the normal legacy. Knowing this i'd drop in a whole engine and tranny and go from there. Also the exhaust is different and the cooling system is also more complicated and the brakes are different.

buy a wrecked turbo and swap everything over. you should still be able to do this for about 2k (for the parts).

just buy a turbo legacy. It'll be cheaper and easier in the long run unless you are very good mechanicing and have the knowledge and time to do the work.

If you do decide to go ahead with the swap several of us are installing EJ22t motors in n/a legacy's and Impreza's. I retained the stock type transmission with a HD clutch plus extras and now have 30,000 miles on the car (a '95 Impreza) with no problems. Right now there is a swap under way in ID where we are going to run the engine with the '95 ECU in a '95 Legacy another is a EJ22t into a Brat in northern CA. If you want any help or advice just ask. If your car is in good condition a good alternative would be a aftermarket turbo. pdm turbos makes one for the 2.2 engine.

Where in NorCal is this Brat? I'd love to get a look at it.
