ABS Light on + Hissing noise

So it happened tonight, the ABS light came on and a very audible constant hissing noise came from the ABS unit, even when the key is taken out of the ignition.

After reaching my destination and parked for 45 minutes, the noise was gone and ABS light disappeared, everything back to normal.

The constant hissing noise was a first, but the ABS light has been off and on when it snowed a couple of weeks ago. Tonight's weather condition was normal, just a bit cooler, nothing the car has never seen before.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If I were to take a shot in the dark, I'd guess one of the ABS relays is sticking closed.

When the ABS light comes on the ABS computer records a trouble code (unless the light is on because the computer's failed).

Does your car have a standard transmission? If it does, you can search for a post by me on how to read ABS codes when the light is on.

If your car's an automatic, you have a newfangled ABS system that actually saves the codes even after the light goes off. I don't know much about it, but maybe this article would help:

In any case, I would remove the ABS fuse when not diagnosing the problem, because an untrustworthy ABS system should be disabled.

Thanks vrg3... the car is of standard transmission. The ABS light doesn't blink or anything. I'll go check out your thread. It was the first time I've experienced this and heard the hissing so it kind of got me puzzled especially when the problem persisted after I took out the key.
