90 NA into 90 SS w/ DOHC!

Post by douglas vincent »

So, no pictures yet, can't find the camera.

But basically I started out with a 1990 Rio Red Sedan AWD I got for $500. We drove it for a year or two with a motor I rebuilt, then I set it aside since we are a wagon family.

Well, I have been trying to find the time and money to convert it to a "race car" for my two brothers and I to auto/rallycross, track time, etc..... And I have slowly accumulated most of the stuff needed.

First I got some WRX lowering springs, Legacy SS front and rear brakes, front and rear strut bars, and for looks, an SS rear deck, hood and bumper. Looks pretty good, but needs some extra clear coat over the peeling clear coat on the front fenders. Oh yeah, the hood and deck lid are black, giving it a mean two tone.....

We did one rallycross, which was awesome even though the sedan was grossly underpowered (stock ej22) and half assed tires.

So now its time for the motor swap.

Complete rebuilt ej22

hot tanked and honed engine case ej22
ACL bearings
EJ22t rods and pistons
Twin turbo DOHC heads with metal 3 ply head gaskets.
550 injectors (modded stock red 270 injectors)
ACT 6 puck
SPEC pressure plate
? year intake manifold

Not sure what IC I am going to use yet. I have both a top mount and FMIC....

Will be using a PP6, but need to buy another one as I used the last one on my daily driver.

I dropped the motor in tonight. It still needs to be bolted down, running etc, but hey, its in!

Pictures when I find my camera!
Reddevil, Awaiting new heart, will it ever happen?
1990 wagon, EJ25 12.3 @ 116.5 FAST Family wagon getting new motor soon
1992 wagon, wifes daily, high compression
1992 Touring wagon, should I keep it?
