intake screen
Okay...this is my first turbo and I have a question. Should there be a screen on the scoop on the hood...something to keep bugs, etc. from flying down there? There is a screen on the actual intake on the engine, but didn't know if I was missing one on the hood? Also, any issue with snow going down there? Thanks and sorry for the noob questions....

The scoop is there to direct air over the turbo for the sake of cooling it. If you look, you'll see that there is some metal work inside of the scoop which aims the air a 'heat shield' that goes around the turbo, that is called the chimney.
because our cars didnt come with intercoolers, the only purpose of the hood scoop is to cool the turbo. Whereas the newer cars, (ie - WRX and STi) have intercoolers which are cooled by air flowing through the hood scoop.
[after 11 hours at the office, Im sure my explanation is not perfect, but you should get the idea]
