instaling crankshaft key

so i've got my engine back together, and i'm trying to put in the on my crankshaft, now should it just slid in or do i have to force it some how?

If you are talking about the timing gear and key- I would heat up the gear a little bit to make it 'larger' and it should go on without too much beating. If you do have to beat it on, use a deadblow hammer or a piece of wood to lighten the blow. Also, I would use some thread locker on the whole thing since these things have a tendency to wobble loose and tear up the crank.

im not worried about the crankshaft gear. the key that goes into the end of the crank, its not just sliding into place and im not sure if i should bead on it to get it into place.

Try cleaning out the key hole, and heating the end of the crank with a torch. You could even try putting the key in the freezer.
