Added another to the collection. (updates,SIDESWIPED!)
Picked up my new (to me) '93 SS earlier today. Snapped these just after I pulled her into the driveway this evening. Makes my collection an '02 Midnight Black Pearl WRX, '93 Winestone SS rallycross machine and a '93 Pure White SS daily driver.
A few small marks on the exterior, nothing major. Interior is great. Everything works down to the A/C, sunroof, cruise control and even the power antenna. Needs a clutch and tires. Clean, rust free California car. Overall, I believe I got a good deal.
More pics in the morning.
And a big thanks to Ozified for his patience with the deal.

everyone on this board has a nice white ss, seriously.
it's like the only color they made
that car looks really clean for having 240K on it, good for another 100k right

In North America only '99 2.5 RSs came with them in silver. '98 2.5 RSs came with them in gold. A few '98s reportedly had them in silver too, but I've yet to see one myself.ericem wrote:OMG I want those damn rims!!! AND a white SS!! Which subaru's have those rims dammit!!
They were quite common WRX wheels overseas so check the importers often and you might score a set.

Well, did a pretty good inspection today. I found a few things I wasn't expecting, but nothing so serious as to make me regret anything.
The car had a pretty good hit from a truck tire tread in the road. I knew this before I bought it. The bumper and fender were obvious, but I did miss this:
I've got a spare oilpan, so no biggie.
The impact was big enough to deploy the airbag. The previous owner replaced it, but didn't install the gas generator unit in the new steering wheel. This leaves the airbag light on all the time. I haven't decided what to do just yet.
A torn steering boot is no big deal.
Heatshields removed to stop rattling, I would assume.
The only worrisome parts are the bumper mounting points have been distorted and the core support is mildly tweaked. The end result is that the front bmper and bumper-cover will not sit right untill I figure out how to straigten it out.
Even with these new discoveries, still very happy with the condition of the car.
Now a few showoff shots.
I'd like to get a shot of all three, but the Winestone car isn't exactly ready yet.
The album has a few new shots too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/23291496@N ... 130117113/

Finally found time this past weekend to do the clutch.
Old one was pretty well gone, even though it still held up to about 75% power. Went easy enough, no suprises.
Added a few upgrades while I was in there.
Lightweight flywheel. Didn't really want to go that route for a daily driver, but couldn't locate a stock one local. This one was 'on the shelf' for the rallycross car, so I swiped it. Actually, I'm pretty suprised. Feels really nice and the 2.2 covers up any bogging that might have existed in a stock WRX (2.0).
Stock Exedy WRX replacement clutch kit.
Stock WRX takeoff shifter. Less than 5000 miles, supposedly. Huge difference here! Of course the old one had 244k miles on it. The bushings were practically non-existant.
Close up of the adaptor you need to use with the WRX shifter and the 'double' roll pin that gives some of us so much trouble. Mine didn't.
Shifter installed. Also the screwdriver I used to get to the two screws under the console and airbag computer. This allowed the swap to happen without pulling the whole console out.
Group N transmission mount and pitch stopper. Motor mounts had to wait as I ran out of time.
Also tried Spencer's transmission cocktail for the same reason....No Redline local here. Seems OK, but don't have alot of pre-treatment miles to compare to. Seems about the same as my 100k mile WRX.

Ebay Austrialia, what have you done for me lately?
Dropped right into the stock hood cutout. No fabbing needed at all. Looks homemade, but the workmanship is top-notch. Should match a '06-'07 WRX intercooler perfectly. Will use it with the VF10 I got off my EJ20G. I will probably make a diverter once I get the intercooler.
The side view looks a bit wierd, but every other angle looks great.

$151 USD total which included $40 for airmail shipping. It would have been $30 for slow-boat.beatersubi wrote:Nice find! What was shipping like? Or do we want to know?

Some of you may remember this thread from a while back. http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=33490
I had three suspensions to try but only one Legacy to go around. And that car was up on block awaiting time for a 5-speed and EJ20G swap.
There is a rallycross coming up on the 20th of this month that I want to attend. (Jamal, you coming out to this one?) Used that as an excuse to finally get that KYB rally spec suspension under the car.
Swap was pretty straight forward. These are originally BC/BF struts so there was zero issues to deal with. This white car came to me with GR2s on stock springs in the front and a totally stock setup in the rear. I also threw on a set of '05 WRX wheels with some all season tires that were on the winestone car. The almost bald Azenises won't cut it for rallycross. The new combo seems to have dropped it just a touch, if any. Not sure if the KYBs are set up for tarmac, gravel or both.
Also added a older Whiteline rear swaybar to hopefully make the back end a little happier.
The new feel is really good. It's firm but not road jarring. Just a touch of "bounce" on the street. Almost imperceptable. But once the road starts to turn it just grabs. Initial turn in is sharper than stock, but not quite as sharp as I was imagining. 245K bushings are on the short list to be replaced. Once it takes a set in the corner it seems rock solid and well balanced. A sharp stab at the brakes tucks the front corner in, but the back never seems like it's going to step out. Easy to balance with the throttle in medium speed turns. (no high speed turns yet, was on a back road, but still public) Road behaivor like this usually translates well in a rallycross. I've never driven an STI, but I've got to imagine it feels close to this. Looking forward to the trial by fire at the rallycross.

I guess this is turning into a build thread.

Nice work.
Be sure to post pics (if any) and results from the rally-x.

I don't expect really good results in the rally cross. It's been almost 2 years since I've done one. I was pretty good in my old Dodge Colt Turbo, but that was a Non-LSD front driver that pushed like no tomorrow. Whole new ballgame here. Going to have to re-learn how to drive it.
