Hey all, this is my first post here. I bought my first subaru a couple months ago and I couldnt be happier with it! Anyways Im looking to install an exhaust system on it, and was reading around on the forum and noticed that the WRX/STi pipes can fit on these cars? Would the exhaust flange on these new pipes bolt right up to the header on my legacy even though it is naturally aspirated? Any advice would be helpful, as I am looking to replace all the piping with larger 2.5" or 3" diameter tubes without spending a ton of money!

If you have an n/a engine....you can't use the turbo exhaust, and you don't need to go that large....you'll suffer from lack of back pressure.

would it be better then to just use the factory piping and only replace the muffler to get a better sound out of it?

just get a different tip/muff if you want sound

you could probably get away with 2 1/4" exhaust from the cat back and put a magna-flow muffler on it.

i had an EJ swapped 86 wagon(basically a legacy in disguise) that i had this set up on and it sounded pretty cool and didn't have any adverse affects.

Well I'm definetly going to be putting a nice muffler on it this week, but i guess what im really trying to figure out is if adding larger pipes from the cat back is worth it or not. (for better power as well as sound)

if it's n/a personally i would just use that thing and tune it for the best gas mileage you can possibly get

would replacing the stock muffler with a more straight through design reduce gas mileage at all?

uh, honestly i have no idea.

i think that if your rebuilt one is near stock, then you should be OK.
if it has like 1'' to 1.5'' ish ID then you should be golden. im not sure how it affects MPG. all i know is i made it to seattle on a tank of gas this summer in the L wagon. pretty much awesome

yes, i love her amazing gas mileage as well. I get around 31 miles/gallon at cruising speeds, which is the best out of any car ive owned. Im just craving that deep growl out of the rear end .. And not the one after chili dog night. =)

i dont know if N/A cars have the snorkus or not, but you could do (remove it) in addition to a lil' muffler.

if you did it's in the passenger front fender. cut that dirty out and it sounds more throaty

actually i checked to see if it had a snorkus earlier today, and it seemed like there was a bunch of molded plastic up inside the fender which connected to the airbox, which im assuming is the snorkel. How do you get this out though?

For exhaust options you could also buy an axelback or even catback from an Impreza. Don't get one for a WRX or STi because the piping will be too big. But an exhaust for an 98-01 Impreza RS would work perfectly.
