Questions on a 92 I just picked up!

Post by Speedwagon »

Hey guys, long time no post! Haven't really had much of a need to be on here the last few years since I picked up my '98. But yesterday I picked up a '92 L for my sister, and need to fix it up a bit.

'92 Legacy L 2.2, 5 spd, 233K miles. Drives ok, feels pretty solid.

Problems with it:

1. Hard to start this morning in the cold. Seemed to want to start more when I pushed on the gas, though I'm not sure. When it started, it idled very low and I couldn't rev it, until the idle came up to normal.

2. Occasionally feels like it might be missing.

3. Occasionally bogs if I don't keep RPMs over 2k off the line in 1st.

4. Clutch engagement is WAY up on the pedal. I believe I can adjust this, correct?

Now, I'm used to my '98 with hydraulic clutch, so this car freaked me out until I realized it has a hill holder clutch on it. I thought maybe the brakes were frozen or something.

I did replace plugs/wires/air filter/pcv valve last night. Plan to do the fuel filter tonight. Need to replace the valve cover gaskets, timing belt and tensioner, front crank oil seal. I think that will take car of the oil leak. Also going to replace trans/diff fluids.

Any thoughts/ideas/things I should look at? I was told the clutch is less than 20k old, and it does hold strong.

I'd recommend replacing the coolant temp sensor.

I'll check that out, thanx.

And I just checked the oil when filling it up with gas... it was showing WAY to full, which might explain the oil leak(s) and buring oil smell. I'm going to double check again later, as I didn't actually believe the reading I got. If its true, then I'll be draining a bunch of oil tonight and see what happens.
