My New Toy: Specialized FSR :)

Post by TheSubaruJunkie »

I have been wanting to buy a REAL mountain bike for some time. I kept putting it off. Now that Im having trouble fitting into some of my old pants... i realize the time is now and I cant afford to put it off any longer.

I started shopping a couple months ago before I got my tax return. I first came across the GT iDrive and really liked the idea behind it. I absolutly loved the frame design. I cant stand those full suspension bikes with the funky Y looking frame. I read some reviews on the GT that made me think twice. Then my buddy suggest I look into the Specialized FSR.

Wow I am in love! I found a few on Craigslist and pursued them. I Set my price range at $500 (which is WAY low for a bike that retails for $1800 brand new) but there were a few here and there. Most the cheap FSR's were bone stock, but one showed up for $800 that had some pretty nice upgrades.

I went and looked at it yesterday, and dropped the $800 cash and brought it home :) I will have to tweak it alittle as the suspension is WAY Soft for my size. But the reason I opted for the more expensive one was cause of the adjustable suspension it has.

Front has Manitou Black Elite fully adjustable forks. Rear has some pretty standard Fox Float air shock. I'll need to up the pressure in it for sure.

The deciding factor was the adjustable rear connecting link. And the front & rear disk brakes. I just gotta go buy some new pedals or shoes that will work with these pedals... and a helmet :) Supposed to go break it in this weekend with some friends.

Sweet man, congrats on the new ride. Good deal too, and I'd know. You lucked out with that fork too, the Black was one of their, if not the best fork Manitou made.

Happy riding :P

I went to the bike shop today and picked up some cheap pedals to get me by until I can find/afford the shoes.

Also grabbed a helmet and a pump for the rear shock. I adjusted the shock in the rear to give alittle more travel and pumped it up alittle. Its a whole lot better :)

I would destroy that rear wheel. At least I would need a stronger one.
Kickin' it old-school.

I bought new pedals when I bought my helmet and stuff. I got some regular pedals. I guess the pedals that came on it are SPD's and are supposed to be some real good pedals. Ive used clip in's before and i love them, however its been about 10 years and I think I wanna get used to the bike w/out clip ins for now. The prev. owner of the bike called me yesterday and asked if he could buy the pedals back. Im not sure yet :)
