Gas prices may force the sale of my '93 Turbo Wagon :(

Post by TheSubaruJunkie »

I might not have a choice. If gas prices continue, i just cant afford the 15mpg anylonger.

There's an opportunity for me to get a car that will almost double my milage while running on '87 octane.

I room to park 1 car :( so, anyone in the sacramento/norcal area interested?

Similar thoughts have crossed my mind also-it is getting very expensive. What car might you pick up?

If you give car a tune up I bet you will improve you gas mileage. It seems way low. I know got 20 something mpg when I first bought my 91, but that was like five years ago so I might be mistaken. My 91 now get about 16-17mpg when I got my foot in it, and It is slightly modified

Pull out the turbo and run N/A injectors maybe? Then go to lower octane. Might be almost as good as a N/A. Getting close to the 30mpg mark hopefully. My car has been getting around 30mpg after replacing the spark plugs.

I believe that these engines can be tuned to offer great mileage, but you can't do that with the stock ECU.

TheSubaruJunkie What would you charge me to let me borrow it?

I'd borrow it, put its engine in my wagon to get it inspected then put it back together again possibly with new parts (like a rear main seal)

My goal is to get the wagon bar'd as a Legacy turbo but then install "something" else in its place ;)

I only got 23 with an N/A running turbo engine. Low compression. Probably could piss in the tank after a night of drinking and it would run, though.

Well, i cant give up my car. I love it too much. And i'll be DAMNED if im going to let the big oil companies seperate me and my baby! :)

The car has a fresh tuneup as of March, along with new headgaskets etc... I have a diamond coilpack ive been meaning to install, but im not sure how much good that will do.

Its running 9psi of boost right now. at 5psi I was getting 180mi per tank. at 9psi im gettting 180mi per tank. I doubt turning it back down will do anything.

Driving with a lead foot doesnt help, but even babying it doesnt help. I think my 4EAT is killin my gas milage. I want to replace it with a 5spd real bad!

Ciper, i'd let you borrow it and do with it what you wil... but its my only mode of transportation. I was going to take a small loan out to buy the GL but Ive decided against it. So i need my wagon to get me to work and back. Once I get my toyota running, we can talk... cause then I can just use the truck to get back and forth from work.

I've got 2 '90 AWD NA wagons, both are getting right at 22-23 in town (12 mile one way work commute on mine, and errands on the wife's). Best highway milage on my LS was 29.3 straight highway with a couple of rest stops. Wife's L hasn't been used for a road trip yet.

BTW I think my mpg will come up a little, as I just replaced a siezed caliper and bracket assembly. The caliper will rotate on the slider post, but won't "slide" to let the brake release. I was getting about 60-65 miles on the first 1/4 tank on a fillup, but have over 80 on this tank and still not to the 3/4 mark yet!!! Only other change was upping the tire pressure in the Toyo's from 40 to the max rated 44 psi.
