front Axles

How do I remove the front drive axles out of the Transmission? I've tried for all I'm worth and can't seem to get them out... it's a Legacy

Remove the roll pins first.

The pins that go through the stubs. They are about as big around as a pencil. Turn the axle while looking at the green part near the trans and you will see what I mean

no you do not. the pin is farthest away from the tire.

Don't touch the boot. Its between the transmission and the inner boot. Just rotate the axle and you will see two holes on the green portion.

The pin only comes out one way. There is a chamfer on side. The roll pin needs to be driven that side.

that explains why i had such a hard time getting the pin in on one of the axles, only put it through one side, didn't pay attention to the other.

There is a tool that works perfectly for removing them.

However who wants to spend 16$ plus shipping for a one trick pony. I posted this in another thread but another tool exists that is perfect for it and most of you already have it.

There are screw driver sets that are similar to eye glass screwdrivers. The shaft is black, the handle portion is silver metal and the top has a nut that spins freely. One of the sizes is perfect for removing roll pins because the black shaft part fits inside the pin and the shoulder is the same diameter as the outside of the pin. I wish i could find a picture to show you.
