Are they Turbo heads? I bet you could get a used set for cheap.
Did you find the spark plug? Does it have any physical damage on the end? I bet you 5$ someone overtightened them in the past which weakened the threads.

I think they are turbo heads, it's an ej22t motor and I never changed them, should I take this as an opportunity to upgrade the heads? are there better plug and play heads? Is It a major pain in the keester to swap heads? I did the t belt twice cuz I lined it up wrong first, that was a bitch. Is it worse that that?

Well I would recommend removing the motor to get at them. I heard it's possible to do them with the engine still in the car though. Aren't EJ20G heads a better flowing upgrade?

+1 You can get ej22t heads CHEAP.
I sold a set off a good running SS motor for $40 complete....
An upgrade would be a set of JDM WRX or DOHC 2.5 heads + intake manifolds & the timing stuff thats needed to get this running.

My brother did this same thing to a '94 Jetta GL. My dad's mechanic only charged like $75 for a helicoil job and new spark plug. But that guy's rate is almost half what most shops charge nowadays....
