T-Bird Mod?

Post by Tommio RS »

Well I have been looking all over the boards here and i cant seem to get a good answer about this mod!

Does it increase cfm?

Does it increase power?

All i know is that it gives you crazy fast spooling over stock and hold 15ish psi.

Thanks!

Stock should already have crazy fast spool. If you're looking for power, the vf-11 is going to be very limited no matter what you do.

You answered your own question...the VF11 won't hold 15 psi to redline...whereas my T-bird Inbred would...

Very interesting. But the TD04 is not much of a gain. Now if i could get me hands on a VF39, Thats a gain! But then i would need some injectors.... would a set of 02-03 wrx injectors work in my Legacy turbo?

Incorrect...WRX injectors are top feed...Legacys have sidefeed

04 and up STi injectors are 550cc and sidefeed. They will work.

But you will need to run some sort of engine management modifications...as the stock ECU cannot effectively trim 550s

Well by work I meant plug in and flow but you're right, they won't flow right unless you have a way to control them.

On that note, since I am new to EJ22t's, can any larger injectors be dropped in and the factory ECU run them?

What do you mean? Some people here have managed to go with 440's and say a VF turbo on 12-15 lbs and the stock computer works, but not great. But anything bigger than that, will require some form of add-on or alternate ECU.

WOuld a TD04 be slightly better suited for 440's since it was what the WRX's had for a combo or does the VF11 keep up with CFM demands when you turn it up?

My only experience with injectors and all has come from adding the turbo to my 98 OBS where any variance from factory confuses the ECU. I run an E-Manage Ultimate in that car to make it run right.

Swapping injectors to match the turbo based on the factory fueling is foolish. It will run, but poorly. These things will idle below 12.0:1, not that you'd want to.

Playing games like this without any kind of testing (WBO2) is asking for trouble, or wasting a lot of gas.

Widebands are cheap and should be the first thing anyone buys when playing with stuff like this.
