5 Speed Shifter Rebuild

Post by drewriviera »

My shifter is due for a rebuild at 170,000....it has quite a bit of play in it. I have looked and looked and can't find anything pertaining to what is needed to rebuild the actual factory shifter. Don't necessarily need a short throw, but would just like to rebuild the stock shifter. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Go to the local subie dealer and request all new bushings for your year/make/model shifter assembly. Then....rip into it and swap it all out. You will likely have to pull the exhaust to get to the "shift boss" bushings and maybe the rear "stay" bushing but the others can be pulled from inside the cabin with 10 or 15 mins of work. You will need to do the boss bushings as they are the main culprit for sloppy side to side movement. Overall it is a cheap and easy fix that most anyone with a socket set and some PB Blaster can do!
