Not Shifting Into 2nd Until 20mph & Hesitation Problems

Hey there, I just picked up a '92 Legacy SS Auto yesterday, and it refuses to shift into 2nd gear until I hit 20mph, even at really low throttle. It's at about 3100-3300rpm when it finally shifts. Is this normal? Something is telling me no, because it just doesn't feel right.

Also, it seems to hesitate/stumble when I give it a lot of throttle going up a hill, or off-the-line. It's not horrible, but it is annoying.

Any ideas?

Dont know much about the autos but I do know that our cars spool around 2700k and my car actually hits peak torque at about 3300k so it sounds to me as though your car is making good use of the low end power.

Have you checked the trans fluid?

You may be low on fluid, or the fluid may need changed.

The fluid is good, and the shifting isn't a problem if I want to accelerate fast, but when I'm trying to save gas it's annoying. I'm going to check the fuel filter, but what else do you suggest?

Hi there I'm having the same problems as you are! Mine is a 93 ss 4eat does it hesitate when you tromp on it?? If I find out anything I'll let you know cause your not the only one who's havin these issues.
