crunchy tranny? died in 2nd. 5mt.

Post by kamr0n »

93 legacy wagon. 20G turbo. 5mt. awd.

right hand turn from a stop. hard pull through 1st shifted to 2nd, gave it gas and it went crunch.

with the car in neutrial and the clutch engaged. i get a curnchy noise. and a speratic heavy load on the motor.

if i depress the clutch pedal. the noise goes away and the motor runs fine. also. i can shift through the gears as usual.

the car rolls fine in neutral. (motor off. clutch engaged.) should mean not diffs or xfer case.

also, no external leaks. im assuming that the fluid will be metalic. it was changed 18 months ago, when the tranny was installed.

fyi- the gears are from a wrx and the previous owner swares they are the last thing that would go in the drive train.

anyone have a guess as to the cause? front diff? broken input shaft? stripped gears?
