another sti suspension Question!

Post by altron23 »

ive searched and searched but cant make a solid conclusion to what all i need to make a set of 04'+ STI struts and springs fit on my 90' wagon L.

i have the stock sti springs, all 4 matching, all 4 struts, and front spring plates, not the top hats.
also the rubbers for the sti springs.

my legacy suspension is completaly stock, just some shitty monroe struts up front.

thanks in advance for your help, i need this car to ride better!

I would suggest reading through those. I'm in the process of upgrading mine with a similar setup and I believe those threads covers everything.

If you have an specifics, feel free to ask.

and to get the rears to fit i need to eather drill new holes for the wrx type top mounts or run mine? or later legacy ones?

and do i NEED camber bolts in the rear to get proper alignment?

The regular STi front top hats will fit. For the rear you will need 90-91 rears, which you have, or you will need to file out the mounting holes.

Proper alignment means a lot of different things to different people. For an aggressive/sport setting you will need camber bolts or you will have less than 1 degree. Without them you can probably get around 0.7 degrees.

sounds good! that makes better sence.

after work today i found some old strut assemblies at work for a 95' legacy, so i took off the top hats and set up the front sti struts with them, every thing fit together like it was ment to be!

so all i need to do is jack my top mounts off my old rear struts and use them with the sti struts? and do the topmounts in the rear come off of the spring plates on the 90's?

yea im not going for anything raticale in the alignment department untill i get some 16" wheels and new tires, then its time for the O/B front brakes to go on!
