Rear lower then the front?

Post by race_to_live »

i have a 91 turbo and i noticed that after taking some corners pretty hard the other day that the tires in the rear are rubbing on the inside of the fenders. it happens right on the sidewall of the tires. it kinda pisses me off that i cant bang corners, now i have to slow down to other peoples speed and then waste all that gas getting back up to the speed limit. so i was just wondering if the rear is supposta be lower, and why.

Is it a wagon? Are you using aftermarket struts? What offset and width are the wheels? What size tires?

If its what I think it is a company called Turn In Concepts makes a product called Saggy Butt Shims that will help. Here is an example (they make many types and sizes)

Do you have larger wheels? Must have broke a spring.

That shouldn't happen unless you have:
a.) larger diameter wheels
b.) lower suspension
c.) both a and b

But, regardless, it is happening. There are a few fixes:
a.) Saggy butt spacers (paranoid fabrications makes them)
b.) use a baseball bat and some elbow grease to roll your inner fender lip out
c.) replace suspension/wheels with new OEM to fix sag/rub
^^
A combination of a and b fixed the rubbing issue on my 2.5RS AutoX car.
If you are worried about cracking the paint on the inside of the fender lip, use a heat gun and seal it all up with Rustoleum when you are done.

to answer ciper's questions, the car is sedan, and everything is stock. no aftermarket parts at all. the wheels are stock and the tires are 195/60R16 i think. im not really worried about any paint or body damage, but i just don't want the tires to rub. the main concern is that when i do put different susp. on it that the damn tires will be in the trunk. if i do lower the car maybe 1", will the little
"baseball modification" will the tires clear? just as a very rough estimate it looks like the car is 1/2" lower in the rear. i will also look into the saggy butt things.

BTW the car has 205K on it. It is clear, im not a susp. guy, so another question i have is could the struts, shocks, springs, or whatever i have be toast?

^ Yeah if you're car has 205k your shocks are way blown and that would have an affect on the car tucking its wheels up on corners.

the struts will control the movement, but ultimately the amount the suspension compresses in a corner is up to the spring. Your struts may well be worn out, but rubbing would be from worn out springs.

if it was rubbing when you hit bumps or violently loaded or unloaded the suspension...maybe then you could blame the struts.

rubbing should never happen with stock suspension and tires though, so something is wacky.

Those should work, and if the holes are slightly off, slotting them shouldn't be a problem.
They are held in and fastened down between two parts, so I couldn't see fitment being an issue.
