1993 ss...what should i do?

Post by RJ93SS »

my springs and struts are stock, i am looking for an easier swap, new or used and something that will lower the front 1.0 to 1.5", the back .75 to 1.0", maybe something out of an sti, something that i only have to do minimal mods on as i know very little about suspension. i've done searches but i'm looking for a proven setup,
any ideas?

Proven setup for what? Lowering? Daily Driving? Cheap parts?

If all you're looking for is just a drop buy some KYB gr2's and some lowering springs (Intrax, HR, Eibach, whatever)

In order to do STI stuff right you'll need to do a little more work than it sounds like you're ready for.

my cost up here for the kyb oem swap is 600$ with taxes, i see sti struts going for very cheap that are almost brand new, and i'll buy new springs, whitelines i guess cause i've heard good things about them. i am pretty mechanically inclined but i've never really touched anything suspension wise. i could do some mods i guess like different tophats or whatever but i was hoping for someone to tell me i could swap in some sti struts and maybe springs too that will bring my baby down so she handles and looks better.

so is there any proven setups for a daily driver with the kids and wife driving to school that will not be auto crossed but is driven with spirit when i am alone?

so i'm thinking whiteline ground control springs to lower it, then would i be able to just drop in some wrx or sti shocks, i really don't want to pay a bundle for new kyb's. does somebody have a year/make shock that just drops in or just requires drilling larger holes.

I just put some 05 STI struts and springs on my car and it dropped it about what you're looking for. I haven't driven it so I don't know how it drives.

The rear springs are tapered and 92-94 are not tapered so you'd need the rear top hats(strut mounts)from a 90-91 and I think you'll need to use the STI front spring perches. But other than that I think it's a pretty simple swap.

$250 shipped is what I paid for the whole setup.

that's more like the info i was looking for, could you tell me how much it lowered the front and back, or by chance do you have some before and after pics, i was looking for about 1.5 in the front, and 1.0 in the back.

thanks kimo

That's the thing, I wasn't familiar with the car before doing this. I've never even driven it before. So I don't know how much it lowered it and to make things worse, the car sat on jack stands with the wheels off for a good month or so before I finally found the right suspension for it.

It's definately lower though. I can take a picture of it maybe tomorrow but you'll only get a good idea of the rear because the engine isn't in so the front is pretty high compared to the back.

I think it looks perfect. At least in the rear, the front I won't know probably for a really long time until I figure out the engine situation.
