airbag light and no horn?

Post by farfrumwork »

So I replaced my steering rack (and rebuilt the PS pump) and the first attempt at reinstall left the wheel cocked to the left. No problem, I repositioned on the rack spline.

BUT, when it was off-center for several days my airbag light came on and my horn stopped working. Not right away either - it happened after a day or so.

Could I have disconnected something in the wheel when it was crooked? I haven't looked arround, but is there some related fuse (I would be embarassed if there was :? )?

I am fairly confident that I didn't disturb anything under the car when wrenching. (and how could it manifest as a horn issue anyhow?)

Thanks,
Chad
(and yeah, the new/used rack, rebuilt PS pump, and WL rack bushings are sweet :D )

Did you pull the wheel off and re-center the Airbag slip-joint ring?

I'm guess it has something to do with the slip joint not being properly aligned.

No I haven't pulled the steering wheel.

Can a slip-joint misallignment cause the horn to not work? I guess that would make sense, and the slip-joint could have gotten thrown off by cranking the wheel too far due to the spline being off.

I'm just not sure what all the connections are inside the wheel (obviously) - maybe I'll just tear in there and see if something is wrong

thanks
