Legacy steering swivels

Post by 8valvegrowl »

OK, I bought a set of used steering swivels for my '91 as a precaution, but ended not needing them.

They came off a car with 109K, and was located in southern PA (less corrosion than up here in NE).

The good:
The swivels look clean
The bearings have no play, but aren't buttery smooth....maybe remove the inner seal, clean, pack some grease and install a new seal and it could go a long time.
ABS Sensors are attached, includes tooth wheel and the outer hub

The not-so-good:
Drivers side ABS Sensor bolt is broken (I got it that way), but the sensor is on there tightly.

I imagine you could pop it off with a hammer and a flat screwdriver, extract the part of the bolt sticking up and be good to go.

Balljoints are toast.

I asked the guy if the balljoints were OK, he said they felt good, no play and the boots were intact. Actually the boots were cracked and they didn't feel that good to me.

So the swivels will need new balljoints, but at least it is a lot easier to do them with the swivel out of the car and in a vice.

I paid $125 shipped from PA two weeks ago, and I don't want to deal with these guys any more.

First $100 OBO gets them shipped to your door. I'd consider selling them separately.
