I just today lost reverse gear. Putting shift lever into reverse now acts same as putting it into neutral. The previous time I shifted into reverse, everything was fine without even a hint of a problem. And reverse has worked fine for the 2 months or so I've had this car.
Earlier today, I started hearing a noise that almost sounded like a belt slipping-sort of a squealing noise. It may have been from the transmission.
Car is 93 Subaru Legacy Wagon without turbo and with automatic transmission and 2.2 engine.
Is there anything simple to fix that could be causing this, such as maybe just the transmission computer, or am I screwed because this has to be an internal tranny problem that is expensive to fix?
No Reverse Gear, Can Fix Be Simple?

Check your transmission fluid ASAP with teh car running on level ground. In the end you should try replacing the fluid a few times till it works fine. If all else fails try a lucas tranny additive.
