Hey all, Jeff here from southern Oregon. A bit of background.....last November I bought a Legacy L awd sedan from a kid here locally (craigslist) for $300, and have been messing with it a bit as a beater/offroader/jackassrallying type of car. I was never a huge Subaru fan until this car (previously owned a Loyale, multiple DSMs, Galant VR4s, etc). This thing is ugly as hell, not fast, but tougher than nails! I will repost a few posts I made over at subaruoutback.org for the heck of it here.....glad I found this site again!

In the words of O'Shea Jackson, it was a good day. Slept in, worked on the pos subaru (replaced a busted headlight, cleaned the mud from the wheels and undercarriage, and washed the damn thing.....

Video of going around the old Klamath Speedway......was messing around, until the kid on the quad wanted to race. Then I quit my drifting crap, and got serious...lol.

Here are some pics:

Clean......yeeeeeeahhhh....

Gettin some less than $2 a gallon petrol...you can see the knobby goodyear ultra grips too.....check the clearance:

This is the slight hill that we jump frequently.

Check out the tite high performance cat back! LSD rear end too...for drifting of course!

After some laps at the old Klamath Speedway.....piles of asphalt are on the old front straightaway, to keep people from racin, I guess.

Haha, sweet. That's one hell of a beater.

Any vids of it jumping? I'd never treat my Turbo like that, but the thought of getting an AWD L like that on the cheap has been on my mind for a while.

That's the beauty of Subaru AWD, as they say. :D

Funny you should ask that....from about a month ago...

REALLY Greasy mud out by the jail here in KFalls......a few redneck hillbillies out there, but i showed them how it was dun. Got some new Goodyear Ultragrips from the u-pull it today, so I had to try it out. Props to Yan for being a good cameraman...

Good fun....anyone else down to be a jackass off road?

More shenanigans....

Went out by the jail....again.

Had to clean the airbox of 5+ lbs of mud and shit first:

Cleaned it all up, new air filter, and some extra holes in the airbox:

Chris followed with his 4Runner, and Ian rode along for one jump......lol.

Good stuff, until shit broke.

The most off-road jackassery I've committed was going sideways down a dirt road by a farm... the workers didn't seem as amused as my friends and I were, and some food was thrown in the direction of my car. Unfortunately no pictures of that incident exist. We left very quickly.

What did you think of the two videos?

I think people should submit more off-road vids. I know people do it, but I barely see anything like this on here.

If you look around on these forums, though, there's some pretty entertaining stuff (even a RWD converted drift Legacy).

That Klamath speedway looks like a great place to screw around... loved the pass on the ATV haha.

what are you lifted on?

This car has late 90s Outback Wagon struts and springs on it....with 205/75/14 tires on stock steel wheels....

The lift really helped out off road....not nearly as much damage to the underbody now!

I need to do some skid plates, but other than that, I am going to leave it alone....

Nice man those are some pretty cool vids, your jump was the best! How do you get the hood to stick down now?

the whole front end is pretty tweaked....now it has a ratchet type strap holding the hood down. Wire broke too easily....lol.

Good stuff! Nothing funner than a beater 4x4!

What did you do to lift it?

Yep, great fun....I put stock outback wagon struts (longer) and springs (more travel) on the car.....the fronts were just remove and replace, while the rears I had to disassemble the strut hat, as the older legacy and the newer legacy ones are different bolt pattern.

Cool mod for $80, and about 2 hours worth of not hard work....between that and the airbox, its pretty much stock otherwise.

Nice. I need some front Outback struts, as my rear is already lifted about an inch and a half.

I've always said you could pour sand in an EJ22E and it will still run. Case in point.

Hopefully you cleaned that throttle body lol. Poor car, on the positive side SICK!!! Awesome entertainment just you need more video footage ;)

thanks for the comments guys......

yep, great entertainment. Funny thing is, that the jump that is on video was with the airbox FULL of mud....I noticed it wasnt running quite right, and wouldnt rev to redline in neutral even, indicating a problem....lol.

I cleaned the airbox out (modded it too), cleaned the intake piping, and throttle body thoroughly.

We have hit that jump in a similar manner probably 25 times or more....the last really big jump was at night, and REALLY got it up in the air.....it was high enough that we all had time to yell while in the air, and contemplate the landing for a few seconds. We landed HARD on the drivers front corner, and bent the hell out of the strut, and lost the corner light in the process....lol.

Fun times...

BTW, this area is about 1 mile from my house, in town, Klamath Falls, OR. Cool huh....I take a dirt bike down there on occasion too....

Carnage from jumping, and late night off roading. Broke the pinch bolt that holds the hub onto the lower control arm and ball joint. Had to walk home, and retrieve the bomb the next day. Did a half assed repair to be able to drive home, and repair properly at my house (new axle, and proper installation....lol)

DIfference between the outback and regular legacy struts/springs
Image

The real damage from this wreck was the oil pump downspouts broke off, and also a tacoed oil filter!

One of last years outings....hit a rock and flattened the tranny pan. Towed it a mile home, then pounded out the pan, flushed, and was better than ever!

WHen I first got this car...about a year ago.

Notice how little it takes to get your Leggy back on the road compared to the DSM's in the driveway.

Sorry, I had to. ;)

Haha. How'd you find legacycentral, man? I saw the thread and was like "wait, I've seen these photos elsewhere...." (JSM)

Looks like loads of fun!

I like Dan's comments about putting sand in an EJ22 and the damn thing keeps running :)

I just found it again the other day, honestly.......I had posted some stuff on www.subaruoutback.org, but those guys are pretty prissy with their cars, and dont post that often. This forum looks to be more active......which is good.

Yes, the Legacy is simpler than my dsm stuff (have multiple awd 1g cars, and a Galant VR4). However, I dont think I have seen a subaru locally that can hang with my mildly modded GSX in a straightline or on an autocross track. I do like the Galant for wintertime commuting duty too, when its not broken!

Love the subaru, and the dsms.....different cars for different purposes. I have an Acura Legend, Nissan 300zx twin turbo, and a Ford pickup too....all good in their own right.

Naw, I don't actually hate DSM's. They are cool cars. They have a bad rap because too many amatuers mod them and they break down a lot because of that.

Mine, if it wasn't in a T-boned state at the moment, possibly could keep up with you depending on your turbo choice. ;)

I saw that pic and it reminded me of U.S. Marshals when Tommy Lee Jones talks about pouring sand in a Glock and it will still shoot.
