Stock WRX DP on SS?

Post by Stanky Leg »

if we put a stock WRX downpipe onto my 91 SS, and extend the O2 sensor to go into the bung, will it make it run weird? because there are 2 cats before the sensor.
somebody mentioned that it might run rich, is that true?

because i dont have enough money for a catless downpipe right now, and i'm going to have the exhaust built from the WRX downpipe, and then when i can get a catless wrx downpipe, it will bolt right up to the exhaust i'm going to have made at a shop.

I have a WRX downpipe on my 91 SS. The installer welded in an O2 bung in the same location as the stock downpipe. It's worked fine for tens of thousands of miles. Seems to me that extending the sensor to the stock WRX location is more likely to cause out of range data for the ECU.

The WRX has it's O2 sensor before the up-pipe because of all the catalytic convertors. Placing it after any catalytic will most likely cause a rich condition in closed loop driving.

hmm ok.
well we did it anyways... haha
we waited long enough.
but we should have a catless downpipe soon anyways.
so hopefully it won't cause any problems for a little while.

i just put a perrin divorced downpipe from a rex on my car, i plugged the 02 bung and welded an 18mm fine thread nut in our stock location. running an 02 after the cat is a bad idea as the 02 controls so much and when not working properly can cause alot of problems.

i would get that changed asap.

it's a good idea for building an exhaust off of though.

Take your catted DP to a scrap yard, the value of the cats will nearly pay for a brand new ebay wrx downpipe.

In the meantime disconnect the oxygen sensor. The ECU won't mind running without it.
