Windows based scantools

Post by pball3485 »

G'morn everyone

I was wondering if there was a decent windows based scantool/datalogger for windows for my 91 Legacy. I've already constructed a TTL-to-USB adapter and I'm able to pull values off the ECU, but it seems like the refresh time is very low.

Subaru Select Monitor Scan Tool by Kevin Frank:
I get values off this, but every other pass resets values back to 0.

B10Scan:
Even though this isn't made for windows, the parallel connection works fine on this, but is very limited on it's compatabilities.

Evoscan:
I don't wanna buy this and have the same problem as the SSMST where it won't spit out real time results.

Anyone have any more suggestions?

It's my understanding that the Subaru select monitor only pumps out parameters every X milliseconds, which restricts how fast you can poll the data. If that's truly the case, then nothing you do/buy will be able to poll very fast -- especially if you're monitoring many parameters at once.

Evoscan is the best one by a long way.

Kevin Franks' program is great for free, but it doesn't work properly through USB. That is why you are seeing zeros every other pass.

As already mentioned, the best speed you can get is between 5 and 10 parameters per second. This is a limitation of the ECU, not the software.
