Got a 94 SS =)

Post by ericem »

Well let me make this story quick. Went to the dealer to get a oil change for my 93 leg, saw a SS on the lot has 190k km, , wanted a price, they said it was sold to a wholesaler, the wholesaler called me, went to look at the car today. Make the long story even short bought a 94 SS mint, was a bit of rust on the front fender and passenger door. Other then that, perfect, just need to get the interior cleaned, and engine bay shampoo'd. Will get much more pictures after I bring the car home and clean it up. So excited, drove really nice!

lol, basically, only issue with the car was the powersteering had a small leak at thast rubber part, and the valve covers leak. Othern then that pretty solid. Most amazing thing is the car has been sitting for over a month, and on the first shot, it started no problem, not kocking or ticking. Also the A/C even works, the compressor actually came on. Really like the seats, it is a different feel in general with this sedan. I did not find much of a difference in performance compared to my 93 legacy l wagon non turbo. I was expecting the extra torque and hp , as well as less weight being a sedan would be noticeably quicker. I would not be surprised if the car needs a new CAT, air filter, plugs, wires, pcv, a full tuneup. I found the check engine light turning on and off sometimes. Will diagnois that issue later. either way was significantly much smoother and quieter. Things I also need to check is, AWD didn't work, but I figured the car has been sitting for to long I figure after a good hour drive it will be fine, CD player didn't test, nor did i test the sunroof, but it looked fine anyway. Today going to get some temporary plates and get this car home.

Wow, this car is amazing. Drove it home, it is SOO much quieter, smoother, and faster. Nothing beats the sound of that turbo. It's not loud, but you acn hear something. I just love this thing. Amazing, my dad is crapping his pants to. It is like night and day comparing it to my N/A wagon. Only thing still is the check engine light is on and I need new brakes. Other then that amazing car. I love it!!

$650 = a great deal!

The on/off cel is probably a cracked knock sensor.

Just bought some items, to go out and get certification. Brakes discs, and pads all around $372 with tax with spark plugs. Other day got some wiper blades, and a air filter.

Now I am looking at the air box, looks like I need to take apart, part of the intake tubes, in order to access one of the screws. I figure I will remove the whole intake and clean out everything really nice, including the MAF sensor.

When I go to rinse out the motor, I am thinking I will just cover the alternator with plastic, then spray crap loads of engine degreaser, and spray with possibly a powerwasher (weak power washer) or just a hose. Anything else I should watch out for?

hehe thanks. Only canadian cars get the reflectors :p

Today cleaned up a bit of the engine bay. The air filter looked pretty bad. Was solidly clogged. It makes me wonder if it had ever been changed before.

The check engine light was a knock sensor code, and air flow sensor code (could have been because of the bad filter and now its in the memory). I also notice sometimes when I restart the motor I get the power light flashing. I might check the code if I feel like it. First want to change the transmission fluid.

Oh another thing, the car has 2 sets of tires. Different wear and tread, and brand. Need a price on 4 tires eeek.

Got the front brakes in :) Went pretty good everything came apart pretty nice. All sliders looked perfect! Waiting on the rear pads still. Once I get them, there going in right away :) Then ill bleed the brakes. Found some decent tires. $350 mounted for falken 912 tires. I looked at the reviews they sound like decent tires for the price locally.

Let's try not to encourage unlawful behavior huh, Doug.

You did get a good deal, though. I'd have taken that opportunity to upgrade to WRX brakes.

Well, my dad wanted me to paint the calipers. So I removed the front ones again. Sprayed it all down with brake cleaner a few times and scrubbed it. Then put it in the sink and rinsed it with dish soap scrubbed it till it was nice and clean. Put tape over a few spots (brake line port, and upper slider part) put 2 coats of glossy black paint so far. Says it for calipers, good up to 900F and chemical resistant.

That sure is a great find!

Just FYI, the BEST pcv valve is the genuine OEM one. I've found the aftermarket ones suck. I've noticed a lot less blow by in the intake tubing since grabbing a genuine one.

Yup, I used all OEM parts. With my non my 93 n/a i found it was burning oil with a non oem pcv valve. There is no price difference anyway. Why not go oem really?
