I have a liquid to air intercooler on my turbo legacy... i have it
hooked up through the coolent lines so it cools through the
radiator... I got rid of that little resavoir and used it as one..

mines at the top as it doesn't expand much because it never gets that hot

Ummm... I can't agree that this is appropriate. I would think that the
engine coolant / radiator would run a lot hotter than the factory
intercoooler coolant / reservoir.

use the same as whats in your radiator.... ie, distilled water with a anti freeze or anti corrosion depending on your circumstance. fill it up to the top as you would a radiator.

yes, i agree with that assumption.
all you need do is feel the intercooler radiator after a drive and it is
cool, ambiant air temp.
compared to the engine radiator which runs hot, ie, there is a thermostat to
keep constant operating temp.
no thermostat in the intercooler system.
